Colorado State University
Colorado State University Police is located in the center of Fort Collins, Colorado, just at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills. Our campus community consists of approximately 26,000 students, faculty and staff with 5,000 of those living on the campus itself. On any given day we can have up to 10,000 visitors on campus. Our department has 31 full and part-time sworn officers; along with many student peace officers and campus safety officers. Our officers patrol main campus, the foothills research campus, west of Overland Trail, the south campus which includes the Veterinary teaching hospital as well as other areas in and around Fort Collins.
The CSU Police Communications Center handles emergency and non-emergency calls for the campus community. Our communications center is staffed with 3 full-time, 3 part-time dispatchers, 2 call takers and one communications supervisor. Our center operates 24 hours and handles approximately 1,500 911 calls a year. We generate between 3000-4000 case numbers a year. We routinely staff one dispatcher on duty to handle phone calls, radios, and monitor alarms; busy nights we do overlap with 2 dispatchers.
We currently use the Printrak CAD system to enter calls and information and to monitor our officers. We use the 800 MHz radio system to communicate with our officers. This system allows us to also talk with the surrounding agencies. We use the VESTA phone system, which is a computer-based phone system to answer emergency, administrative, elevator, safe walk and ring-down lines. All of our dispatchers are Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) trained to handle calls that require medical assistance. Along with that all of our dispatchers are CPR certified.
Our Police department is happy to be of assistance to the members of the Colorado State Univeristy and Fort Collins community. We are also appreciative to have the opportunity to work with Loveland, Fort Collins, State Patrol and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
